The Paradox of Me

Running from the darkness to the light.
Chasing a dream that fades from sight.

A soul lost in the beauty of the eternal.
Seeking answers in depths of the infernal.

Smiling while inside the violence quakes.
Immersed in my own self-doubt and hate.

This is the paradox of me.

This journey of life is filled with trapdoors.
To steal our peace and joy, to inflict only pain.
Voices of regret scream, in never ending rain.
Believing I need and must do a little bit more.

This is the paradox of me.

I count the cost of a single soul.
I wake in dread of the written scroll.

A smile on my face while anxiety rages.
My life’s story written on the pages.

Forgotten and alone my hope feels cold.
I rest in grace and the small belief I hold.
