“Fire in the Sky” – Ink, Crayon and Pastels on 4×6 inch postcard

My donated submission for the 2017 Twitter Art Exhibit supporting Molly Olly’s Wishes in the UK. The plan is that this small piece of postcard art will be winging its way to the United Kingdom later this week, with prayers and good wishes for children in need.

Molly Olly Wishes supports children with terminal or life threatening illnesses and their families to help with their emotional well-being. They grant individual wishes and donate therapeutic toys and books to both children directly and to hospitals throughout the UK.

There is still plenty of time to participate and help support a great cause. To pre-register visit the 2017 Twitter Art Exhibit page and you must have a Twitter account. Below is a little bit of information to get you started.

Finding the Courage When You Fear the Beginning

horse-sketch
18×24 Acrylic Board    Pencil Sketch

The above picture is the preliminary pencil drawing on acrylic canvas board for a new horse painting. I am anxious about beginning, wondering if it will at all resemble the image I have in my mind and yet there is the excitement of starting a new painting.

The Beginning – We so often, myself included, hesitate when starting something new. The fear of failure, and even success, hinders our courage to reach out for something more. I know staring at the vast emptiness of a blank white canvas or paper is so often  overwhelming at times. While my mind conjures images of what could be revealed on that surface.

The Fear – It keeps us bound, the what, if’s and but’s that haunt our thoughts. Our own self-doubts that assail our best intentions of doing something great. We stand at the door and knock, we stand at the edge of the cliff ready to fly wondering if we truly can fly.

The Courage – Is inside of each of us, that still small voice. That little light that will always illuminate the dark. If only, we would take that first small step. So it begins and failing is not as bad as never trying at all. To reach for the stars and the desires of our own hearts.

Carpe Diem – I encourage you to begin, right where you are right now. To follow your path, to seek and live your life. Allow yourself to fall, to fail, to wonder, to question and to live without regret. You never know, the journey may be even more beautiful and wonderful than you ever imagined.

PS – Share your journey with me, I would love to hear about it and encourage you along the way. Connect with me here on the blog or through email, info@markschutter.com. I am also on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I will post pictures of my painting as it progresses and who knows, it just might turn our even better than I hope.

Do butterfly like distractions haunt your mind?

“Distractions softly hover in the corners of my mind,
like a butterfly haunts a flower.” ~M

Butterfly's
Butterfly drawings and paintings previously completed using a variety of mixed media including: colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, crayons, ink and pens. Each piece was completed separately and measure 3 1/2 x 5 inches. They were then scanned and assembled into the collage above with no color editing, only adding a border design line.  Original art work completed in 2012, copyright Mark Schutter.

Life: is infinite in its variety and intricacies, if we would only take the time to look.

Beauty: a splendor in so many things that exist right before us, with no effort on your part.

Pause: we often fail to slow down enough to see, easily distracted by so many things.

I wish you moments when the distractions fade and beauty crashes in, causing you to stop and pause long enough that it simply takes your breath away. Happy Spring!

Is there Truth in the Legends and Myths of Silver Wings?

Believe in legend.

GU2012-001 (Silver Wings)
“Silver Wings” Colored pencils on black paper, 6×9 inches, edited border

Believe in the unexpected.

Believe in myth.

Believe in love.

Believe in the miraculous.

Believe in hope.

Believe in dreams.

Believe in the undiscovered.

Believe in God.

Beauty – the majesty of a winged horse standing firm against the darkness.

Strength – wings posed for flight in silent strength ready to erupt into battle.

Knowledge – that the darkness cannot keep him bound as he is free.

This drawing attempts to capture that still moment when strength rises and all things are possible; especially the stories told across centuries that now live in legend and myth. Do you believe there is some truth contained in the legends and myths told and retold across cultures and kept alive throughout the history of mankind?

Will you unlock your passions and bleed colors?

Pin Me

My passion runs deep and yet often lays dormant and unused for extended periods of time. I set them aside under the burdens and obligations of life, or so I tell myself. I am only doing what is needed and what is right.

Really? Is stifling my God-given talents and desires a good thing?

We were each designed with a purpose. Talents, skills, abilities whatever you want to call them and we are expected to use them. For when we do we come alive, our heart and soul sing in harmony. Like a key that fits a long ago locked door, suddenly a whole different perspective on the world opens up to us.

Desires. I yearn to create and have since I was young.

Drawing, painting, writing it all stirs the passions inside of me. I also strive to encourage others and share with others, to make us all not feel so alone. When I draw or write I sense the presence of God and my soul finds rest in the moment.

Distractions. And yet, I so often allow the things of this world weigh me down.

It is then, when my attitude and moods turn sour that those closest to me suffer the ill effects. So I encourage you to go, to chase your passions, to live! To find what makes you come alive, for the world desperately needs us to come alive. For then we can truly help and touch others at their point of need. It is your choice! Now I am off to edit that novel I have procrastinated finishing for so long! And some other endeavors that are calling to me!

What passions have you set aside that you will now allow to bleed?
