Our family recently went camping to central WA, between the town of Leavenworth and Lake Wenatchee. A wonderful getaway from all the clamor and chaos that is surrounding us all each day with the impacts of the pandemic on our lives.
We went to the small Bavarian town of Leavenworth one afternoon for a couple of hours and had ice cream. And yes we wore masks in the stores, it was nice and the town is pretty cool and unique. I encourage you to visit if you ever get to central WA.
The real joys of the trip was camping, being together and being out in nature. The weather was great, minus the mosquito’s 🦟, warm sunny days and perfect clear nights with a thousand stars. We played in the river, went on bike rides and walks, went on drives into the mountains, had campfires and just hung out as a family.
Nature is my best kind of social distancing. It recharges me and helps me to get back to enjoying the simple and important things in my life.

They say each journey begins with that first step, followed by another until we are on our way. To paraphrase Bilbo Baggins (J.R.R. Tolkien) it is a dangerous business going out your front door for there is no telling where you might be swept off to.
Doesn’t the true adventure lie in the unknown? In not knowing what might lie just up ahead, as our nervousness rises our yearning for adventure drives us forward!
Doesn’t the true adventure lie in not knowing what comes next?
My friends, what is stopping you from taking that first step on your own great adventure? #LiveYourDreams #MotivationMonday #MondayBlogsTweet

Sometimes we need to get away To disappear and disconnect Into the wild and unfettered Away from the responsibility The chains of obligation That bind us day to day
What do you do to get away and disconnect?

What are you doing in the midst of the quarantines, stay at home orders, shut down of businesses, limiting of non-essential travel and just all around craziness to stay sane?
This picture is my daughter riding her horse at the barn. It’s a place we can go to escape for a while. Family is important during this time and making memories is still possible and essential. Our love for others should have no bounds.
While it often feels that many of our freedoms are slowly being taken away little by little, I leave you with this.

Godspeed my friends. Now what will you do to today? Tomorrow?
This poem was inspired by the following line from the Moody Blues song “Nights in White Satin.”

My memoir chronicles my experiences as a young man whose young wife battled cancer and eventually died after less than five years of marriage. I was totally unprepared for that and did what the world told me do, get on with life. Well grief is not so easily put off as I have discovered over twenty-five years later. My hope is the book will help others, especially men, young men who have experienced loss when the world tells us to be a man and that boys don’t cry.
My novel trilogy is a three book series set in the present day that combines the battle between supernatural forces of good and evil with highly advanced drone technology. The ensuing circumstances force the characters to question their faith in both a higher cause and in each other as they battle for their very lives and the fate of humanity.
