The struggle is real, as we all are acutely aware. However, so are the rewards if we have the purpose and passion to pursue our dreams with discipline and courage. Go forth my friends and live your dreams, starting today.
What are you doing in the midst of the quarantines, stay at home orders, shut down of businesses, limiting of non-essential travel and just all around craziness to stay sane?
This picture is my daughter riding her horse at the barn. It’s a place we can go to escape for a while. Family is important during this time and making memories is still possible and essential. Our love for others should have no bounds.
While it often feels that many of our freedoms are slowly being taken away little by little, I leave you with this.
“When riding a horse, we borrow freedom.” – Helen Thomson #quote
Through sun and shadow
Across mountains divide
Down the valleys wide
Sitting tall in the saddle
Carrying our burdens
Despite the rain and wind
Two hearts intertwined
Tending to our afflictions
Sharing a little bit of sunshine on a gray rainy day in the Pacific Northwest. May you always have a little sunshine in you heart. Hoping you can always find a happy place and hold it close in your heart. One of my happy places is the barn where I occasionally get to ride my daughters horse.
It is the eve of National Novel Writing Month 2019 (NaNoWriMo 2019), where we crazy writers jump in with both feet attempting to write at least 50,000 words in 30 days.
This is my second year in s row and 4th overall. I have accomplished the feat (50,000 words) each time and “won”. What that really means is I know have 3 shitty first draft manuscripts that I need to start editing. Yikes!
Well this afternoon I received notice that 3 of my poems had been selected for the short list and will be included in the Broken Hearts, Healing Words – An A.B.Baird Anthology.
I am so beyond grateful and freaking excited. Did not really expect this. Just goes to show sometimes it’s all worth it.
Keep writing my friends! You have a story that only you can tell whether it’s poetry, short stories, novels, fiction or nonfiction. #GetYourWriteOn
A moment of vulnerability my friends. I try really hard to be positive in my outlook on life. But every once in a while, yes every once in a while I fall and slip down into my own darkness. Lately, I have struggled with feelings of inadequacy and uncertainty. Hence, the poem above.
This life on this side of the undiscovered, is not always easy. Things are thrown at us and we are left to deal with it. And sometimes we deal, or cope, better than others. We fall and struggle to get back up. It is then that we must persevere.
We must extend grace to ourselves as we hopefully would to others when they fall. We are all in this together, right? I encourage you, as I will do, to just believe that grace wins and hope lives. Even and especially in those dark and troubled times of life.
You were created for great things. Now repeat after me,
“I am enough, I am enough, I am enough.”
Now go out and chase your passions, follow your dreams, seek your place in the world. Your heart is enough and you just might change the world. For if you make a difference and touch one persons life, you just might touch the whole world. Who knows?
