In the End

In the end do not become someone who you never were. #Quote #Poetry #Encouragement #Motivation

Be you, for if you are not no one else could be.

A recent experience led me towards becoming someone who I am not. Through the grace and mercy of Yah and my beautiful wife I have been comforted by Holy Spirit in gentle correction from the lies I was allowing myself to believe.

Now I am holding on the truth of who I was created to be and my destiny. I am claiming the blood of Yeshua over my heart and actions, purposing to follow and live my dreams moving forward.

Now I encourage you to believe in the one who came so that we may have life abundantly. Now go and ⬇️

My Name is Nobody, What is Yours?

The old Cheers television show theme song contained the following lyric…

“Sometimes I wanna go where everybody knows my name.”

Well, sometimes if we are honest with ourselves and others we want to get away to places where nobody knows our names.

We need the escape, even a brief respite, from the chaos and responsibilities that hound us. Especially with everything that has happened in 2020 and now during this often hectic and crazy time of year.

Take time for yourself, it’s okay to not be okay. #SelfCare #Holidays #MentalHealth

Do you ever feel the need to just get away, to some place where nobody knows your name?

#NaNoWriMo 2020 – Halfway Point

This year I am participating in #NaNoWriMo which stands for National Novel Writing Month for the third year in a row and fourth time overall. 👊

You can view my profile here and hit me up if you are participating and want to be buddies. 😉

NaNoWriMo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that believes in the transformational power of creativity. We provide the structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds—on and off the page.

The goal is to write 50k, or more, words in 30 days.

I am well on my way so far. This year has in some aspects been harder. The past two years I wrote books two and three of a series, The Chronicles of Faith . This year I am writing a completely different standalone story. It is a lot of fun but very different!

It is challenging and motivating to get a ‘shitty’ first draft down on paper. And something I never believed I would or could do until I did it.

So what challenge are you willing to undertake?

A Wicked Question…

Yes or No?

Are you proud of yourself? #JustAsking

A simple, fascinating, and thought-provoking question I was recently asked during my conversation with Ronit @RonitPlank while recording an episode for her podcast And Then Everything Changed.

It really got me to thinking. An interesting question that is so easy to quickly fire off a yes or a no with little thought to why. It is so easy to respond with just a gut reaction to the question.

  • If we say YES, what are we proud of? Is it those moments, those events, those things we did or did not do? Who we have become or not become despite our circumstances?
  • And if we say NO, why are we not proud of ourselves? Did we fail when we expected to succeed, did we cause harm intentionally or not? Did we fail someone else or go back on a promise?

All deep questions that require some soul-searching. When asked I answered in the affirmative. I am proud of myself for persevering and overcoming so much in my journey through life. I have done the best I could with what I had and who I was at the time. And I will continue to do just that.

What about you? Give yourself some grace, life is hard. The choices are hard and we are all doing the best we can.

Inspiration and Motivation: Where do you find it?

Do we stumble upon inspiration and motivation it or does it find us?

Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working. ~Pablo Picasso #Quote #MondayMotivation #MondayInspiration

Does inspiration and motivation start in the heart or the head?

Motivation is simple. You eliminate those who are not motivated. ~Lou Holtz #Quote #MondayMotivation #MondayInspiration

For me my inspiration and motivation comes from so many different places and at different times. Sometimes I search for it and sometimes it does seem to find me. 😉

Do you have a muse that inspires and encourages you?

Please share your thoughts, I would love to hear them and remember…

2 Quick Additional Notes:

  • Today is my daughter’s 16th birthday and she is one of my greatest inspirations!
  • Today is also day 2 of NaNoWriMo my 3rd year in a row, are you participating?

The REALITY is that…

Those who succeed are the ones who are willing to put in the work. The work, the practice, the showing up is often overwhelming and progress is slow. Yet, if we keep at it and as John Maxwell says pay the price and do it consistently, the final result can be

What Is It to Have Succeeded?

“To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived – that is to have succeeded.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson #Quote #Success #Life

As I look back over my life, the questions haunt me, ‘have I succeeded?’ and ‘how do you define a successful life?’

Success by the worlds standards might include the following:

  • He who has the most toys wins!
  • Building wealth and showing it off!
  • Amassing a large social media following!
  • Having a perfect relationship and a trophy companion!
  • Launching a billion-dollar business that changes the world!

I am sure you can think of many others things that might apply as well.

If you don’t define success for your life, someone else will define it for you.

  • What mountain are you climbing?
  • How do you know if it is the right one at the right time?
  • When you reach the summit will you see your mountain off in the distance?

For me the idea of a successful life has shrunk over the years. Not in terms of impact but in terms of grandiosity and self-serving vanity. The Emerson quote has been a favorite of mine since the first time I read it.

To laugh often and much to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others to leave the world a little better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success.

I have stood at the bedside as a last breath was taken and I have no doubt my presence made that breath a little easier. You can read about this in my memoir to be published in 2021 and an update in a previous post here. I pray that I have also helped others breathe a little easier in times of trouble, strife and pain. For what good is a life that offers nothing of value to other human beings, living things and the world around us?

It’s probably not surprising to paraphrase Emerson this is my definition of success >

Now tell me, what is your definition of success?

Keep it Simple – Motivation Monday

Sometimes the best thing we can do is to keep it simple…

A simple life is often a wonderful life! #Quote #Motivation Monday #MondayBlogs

I know that I often over complicate things which only serves to make my life harder. To let go of the shoulds, the coulds, the musts and the expectations we place on ourselves so easily. The flowers and the trees do not worry about tomorrow they seek the sun and dance in the wind, knowing not what the day will bring. They marvel in the now and live today, may we all do the same for today will too soon be gone.
