sitting alone in the sun
life seemingly comes undone
following the path of least resistance
my thoughts
like an ant scurrying down a log

as water seeps into the sand
covering it all where I stand
the dark invades covering all
my heart
like a dead leaf begins to fall

flying in the dark alone
pain a constant companion
negativity is an unknown foe
my mind
begins to rise in revolution

seeking a light one small spark
to combat the darkness of life
a purpose destined in eternity
my life
will shine for others to see

    1. Thanks so much! Unfortunately it is pretty easy for me to head down that path of negativity, but I fight it believing that life is good!

    1. Thank you so much, Annie! Loved this prompt as it is so easy to get lost in negativity and I know I am as guilty as anyone, but always believe in tomorrow!

  1. At times it’s hard to hold on to that spark when life throws it’s worst at you. Beautiful. 🙂

      1. Me too. I don’t want to get swallowed up by negativity. I’m not immune to it, but I do my best not to dwell in it..

  2. Well expressed, Mark, the light, the spark, and we can see again, we can find our way out of the negativity. The unknown, and the dead leaf, caught me remembering the journey of a dead leaf.

On occasions, in a stream, a creek, I’ve seen a dead leaf fall from a tree to catch the running streams water. Floating, navigating in an arbitrary fashion, sent on its way by the current. Across rocks, spearing down mini rapids, fighting to keep afloat, fighting not to become trapped beneath the surface, to avoid becoming obliterated beneath the surface as the water pounds across the rocks. Sometimes the dead leaf absorbs too much water, to then sink a slow swift rush to the bottom and pummeled along the stoney bottom. Though on the occasion which came to mind, the leaf made it safe to shore, becoming part of the humus layer to the forest floor.
